We are the Computational Social Science research group in the Department of Computer Science at Aalto University. We combine ideas and methods both from computer science and the social sciences to solve societally relevant problems. In today’s digital world, the internet and the technology deployed on the Web shape nearly every aspect of our daily lives. Our primary research interest lies in unraveling our internet mediated lives. We utilize digital behavioral data in combination with online surveys and experiments to study human behavior on the web and its impact on individual’s opinions, attitudes and behaviors both in online and offline worlds. We apply methods from a wide range of areas such as data science, machine learning, statistical analysis, text mining and network science.
